Prey is a first-person action-adventure game that takes place on an alien space station overrun by hostile extraterrestrial life forms. The player assumes the role of either Dr. Catherine Elizabeth "Ellie" Langford or Jack, and attempts to escape from the space station with the assistance of one of two AI partners (Tom or Elle) as they constantly encounter obstacles such as an unstable gravity gun, shapeshifting enemies, and portals to alternate universes. Prey is a first person shooter that pits you against a slew of aliens on a space station. Unlike other shooters though, Prey is a bit different. While your standard weapons, such as a pistol and shotgun, look and feel just like you’d expect them to – the gravity gun is the real star of Prey. This device lets you pick up nearly anything and hurl it at your enemies. Any glass shard, fire extinguisher, even your own body – anything is fair game, as long as it isn’t too big. You can also use the gravity gun to muck about with the physics of the space station itself. You can pull down ceiling lamps, or push certain objects to keep them out of reach of enemies. The thing that makes Prey special though is the portals scattered throughout this universe. You can use these portals to jump to other universes, but in order to do so, you must activate the portal. Once activated, you will be able to see enemies in your immediate surroundings. If they are moving (even if it is only by small amounts), you will know they are aware of your presence. Once they find out that you’re trying to escape them, look out! Things might start getting really bad for you real quick. Just like the gravity gun, Prey also relies on your ability to hide successfully from enemies. While advancing through an area, there is always a chance that hostile aliens might spot you and draw their weapons accordingly. Now, this is where things get more complicated. If you’re spotted, it may be best to run and hide – or attack your enemies head-on – or even try to jump through a portal before they find you. The enemy AI is designed to be as realistic as possible. They will search for you and attack once they know of your presence. If you move around a lot and hide well, aliens will be fooled into believing that you’re no longer there. This is useful in getting past them. Think dangerous areas are safe? Keep thinking if that’s what you want. You’ve been infected. But you can cure yourself, right? No. No, no, and no again. After a few minutes of playtime, the infected player will become a monster – a shapeless thing that looks exactly like them – but is now known as a Simulant. The life of the Simulant is just as hard as the normal player’s though as they have to avoid being spotted by aliens and other humans alike. eccc085e13
